Maxar takes its corporate social responsibilities seriously and has a long history of supporting and giving to nonprofit organizations. Maxar aims to positively contribute to local communities and society at large through our products and philanthropy. Maxar’s philanthropic initiatives, including in-kind donations, volunteerism, corporate giving, and the Maxar Foundation, are guided by our overarching corporate social responsibility strategy. The strategy is founded on three pillars that represent the company’s greatest opportunity for impact: STEM education and workforce development; veterans, military and first responders; and disaster response and recovery, conservation and transparency.
Community outreach and volunteerism is deeply engrained in our company culture. Maxar team members are encouraged to organize and participate in activities that uplift the communities where Maxar has a footprint. Additionally, our team members are active through community service projects, mentorship programs, charitable drives and nonprofit board service. We host an annual Maxar Cares week to provide an opportunity for our entire Maxar community to come together and give back in meaningful ways through shared service. Site leads at each Maxar location around the globe coordinate opportunities for employees to volunteer with local non-profits, offering either on-site or off-site engagement options throughout the week.
We use our core competencies of satellite data and analytics to help a wide variety of causes that serve a public good. Maxar provides satellite imagery in the form of in-kind donations through multiple channels to leverage technology for social good and global transparency, including our News Bureau, Open Data Program and Purpose Partner Program. Maxar’s News Bureau initiative delivers high-resolution imagery, analytics and expertise to trusted and respected media organizations around the world, providing indisputable truth at a time when credibility is critical. Maxar imagery has contributed to award-winning reporting, including Pulitzer Prize, Emmy and Peabody-winning investigations across the more than 1,100 journalists in our network. Our Open Data Program provides imagery and related data to support humanitarian response and relief efforts during a global crisis, with a focus on natural disasters. Our goal is to assist response efforts with timely, actionable information for disaster management. Maxar’s Purpose Partners Program was designed to support nonprofit organizations that use geospatial data for the benefit of local communities. Maxar formed long-term relationships with five Purpose Partners, including the Jane Goodall Institute and International Justice Mission. Purpose Partners received a complimentary subscription to Maxar data and associated support to help accelerate their missions.
The Maxar Better World Foundation supports organizations that improve the lives of individuals, embrace their diversity and provide them with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive. Since its launch in 2020, the Foundation has focused on advancing STEM education for underserved populations, helping veterans and active-duty military and their families, and supporting global disaster preparedness and relief. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors supported by a nongoverning Advisory Committee and Grantmaking Committee that provide guidance and perspective regarding the Foundation and its activities. Additionally, the Foundation’s Finance Committee assists with monitoring and overseeing the financial policies, goals and budgets that support the mission of the Foundation. We maintain a Maxar Foundation Conflict of Interest Policy and Investment Policy that is reviewed annually.
