Dan is an accomplished technology executive with more than 30 years of management experience at software and IT companies, including Salesforce, Cisco and VMWare. He has a strong track record of driving revenue growth, developing new markets and enhancing commercial operations, and experience delivering innovative technology solutions for national security and other government missions. Most recently, he served as CEO of Riverbed Technology, where he led the IT company’s transformation from a hardware provider to a software-focused business that today serves government and commercial customers, including national security agencies and 95% of the Fortune 100.
Dan Smoot is Chief Executive Officer of Maxar Intelligence, a role he has held since his appointment in November 2023.
He is leading the company’s push to bring the geospatial industry into a new age of intelligence. For over three decades, he has helped scale some of the world’s most innovative software and IT companies and worked closely with the defense and intelligence communities to integrate cutting-edge technologies into national security architectures. Today, Dan is guiding Maxar’s evolution to deliver secure, software-enabled products that use the power of geospatial data and technology to help customers get mission-critical insights, faster.
Dan became CEO in November 2023. Prior to joining Maxar, he served as CEO of Riverbed Technology, where he led the IT company’s transformation from a hardware provider to a software-focused business that today serves government and commercial customers, including national security agencies and 95% of the Fortune 100. Dan had also previously served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Customer Officer throughout his tenure at the company.
Prior to Riverbed Technology, Dan held several senior roles at Salesforce, including Executive Vice President of Global Partner Sales and Executive Vice President of Market Readiness. There, he optimized the company’s sales and go-to-market processes to grow the sales pipeline and accelerate revenue generation, ultimately helping lay the foundation for one of the fastest periods of growth in Salesforce’s history. Earlier in his career, Dan served as Senior Vice President of Global Customer Operations at VMWare and held a variety of senior sales, operations and finance roles over 13 years at Cisco.
Dan earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from UC Irvine. He is a board member of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Western Affiliate and was previously the Chairman of the AHA’s Greater Bay Area chapter.
Susanne Hake joined Maxar in October 2023 as the General Manager of Maxar Intelligence’s U.S. Government business.
Prior to joining Maxar Intelligence, Susanne was the Senior Vice President for Strategic Technology Programs at Palantir. At Palantir she established the company's integrated hardware software business, developing new products and expanding into new markets through innovative platform-based technology solutions. She led business development teams across the U.S. government portfolio including civil, health, defense and intelligence customers. Prior to Palantir, she worked at Booz Allen Hamilton doing consulting projects across intelligence community agencies. She also worked at the National Security Council in the Office of Near East and North Africa Affairs.

Prior to joining Maxar Intelligence, Peter spent twelve years at Palantir Technologies, most recently overseeing the development of the company’s flagship Ontology System, a comprehensive decision-centric enterprise modeling platform designed to deploy AI directly into real-time operations. Prior to that, Peter led the revitalization of Palantir’s Gotham platform, expanding the platform from a pure-play intelligence analysis solution into a comprehensive defense and intelligence product.

He previously spent more than 13 years at Google, where he oversaw the commercialization of the Google Maps Engine cloud platform and led engineering for the Google Earth enterprise platform, responsible for the global serving infrastructure and underlying imagery and 3D model. He also led the development of one of the world’s largest deep-learning conversational AI modeling, training and deployment platforms for Google Assistant; spearheaded the development of YouTube’s flagship product YouTube Go; and drove technical efforts to redesign Google News and integrated it into Google search.
