DigitalGlobe Expands Partnership with Mapbox to Provide Access to 30 cm Imagery Basemaps

10/28/2015

WESTMINSTER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DigitalGlobe, Inc. (NYSE: DGI), a leading global provider of commercial high-resolution earth observation and advanced geospatial solutions, today announced an expanded partnership agreement with Mapbox that will make 30 cm imagery basemaps of hundreds of cities and areas of interest around the world available to users of the Mapbox platform.

Mapbox is the first commercial mapping platform to purchase 30 cm WorldView-3 imagery available with DigitalGlobe’s Basemap +Metro product, and the new content will begin flowing into the Mapbox platform in the months ahead.

Basemap +Metro provides easy access to up-to-date, high-resolution imagery of thousands of major metropolitan areas globally. Nearly 300 of these cities now feature 30 cm satellite imagery, the sharpest and most detailed satellite imagery available on the commercial market. Regularly refreshed imagery is mosaicked together to provide a consistent view of the urban landscape, including high-value areas of interest, extending beyond the city center to encompass suburbs, airports, and other developed zones of population hubs around the globe. The result is a virtually seamless, highly accurate view of each metro area.

“DigitalGlobe’s Basemap product suite is tailor-made for Location-Based Service providers seeking the optimum balance of currency, completeness, and coverage,” said Hyune Hand, DigitalGlobe SVP of Product Marketing and Management. “Mapping platforms now have access to a rapidly expanding catalog of 30 cm satellite imagery, bringing a new level of clarity to urban areas where aerial imagery is cost-prohibitive or unavailable.”

“Mapbox makes it easy for web and mobile developers to integrate maps and imagery into their apps, and refreshing our content with the highest resolution satellite imagery from DigitalGlobe will make all the difference for logistic companies tracking cargo, insurance providers tracing properties, and aid organizations providing disaster response services,” said Eric Gundersen, CEO of Mapbox.
